Camp Kirkwood – This Presbytery ministry provides a Christian camping experience to young people in grades 2 through 12 from the region. Youth learn about God and his love for them in the context of His creation and what it means to be responsible stewards of that creation.
Community Food Cupboard – Provides free food for people in need.
CROP Walk – An ecumenical event raising funds for local hunger programs. www.churchworldservice.org
Elder Net of Lower Merion – Provides services enabling frail elderly and disabled people to remain independent as long as possible.
John Gloucester House – This outreach program for children in SW Philadelphia is supported with gifts for its “Happy Birthday Jesus” party in December. www.jghouse.org
Momobile – APC supports this local program for at risk mothers and children through its mitten, hat and scarf tree at Christmas.
Presbytery of Philadelphia – This disbursement supports mission causes of our local Presbytery from planting new churches to redeveloping existing churches.
Retired Pastor’s Fund of Philadelphia Presbytery – This fund supports retired Presbyterian pastors with inadequate retirement incomes.
PresbyHomes & Services Broomall Presbyterian Home – This gift helps to pay for the cost of nursing home care for residents unable to afford total health care. APC members have benefited directly from this fund.
Presbyterian Children’s Village – This gift helps to fund two programs for vulnerable children: the chaplain at the Village in Rosemont which houses children unable to live in their own homes; and the Southwest Philadelphia Satellite Center for children in the Kingsessing area of Philadelphia who suffer an unusually high rate of loss within their families due to incarceration, violent crime, and drug dealing.
Synod of the Trinity – This disbursement supports mission causes of the Synod which is the regional administrative office of PCUSA and which includes our Presbytery.
Welcoming the Stranger – This ministry provides educational opportunities for immigrants and refugees. Classes, taught mostly by volunteers from area churches, include English, computer skills and citizenship preparation.
The church conducted a three year capital campaign to raise funds for specific physical plant needs of our beautiful building. One of the provisions of the Campaign was that 15% ($112,000) of all funds raised would be given to support benevolences as recommended by the Mission Awareness Committee. Disbursements for local projects are as follows:
Broad Street Ministries - will benefit from a grant of $5,000 to assist with its Breaking Bread program, which provides free meals to homeless people in Philadelphia.
PresbyHomes & Services – Broomall Home was granted $5,000 to help with their capital campaign to expand the area serving Alzheimer’s patients and an exterior enhancement plan.
The Other Carpenter - one of the hands-on ministries we currently support received a grant of $5,000 toward the cost of materials needed in its ministry of housing renewal.
Welcoming the Stranger - a ministry to immigrants in the lower Bucks County area, headed by Sturgis Poorman, Pastoral Helper at APC, is an annual recipient of mission funds from APC. The organization seeks to stand on its own financially as an independent non-profit organization. $12,500 was given to help it reach a goal of financial self-sufficiency.
(Remaining funds from the Century Campaign will be disbursed at the discretion of the Mission Committee to support expenses associated with hands-on ministries in which our church members are active.)
Ardmore Presbyterian Church is currently involved with four local programs that utilize volunteers from local churches. We currently send volunteers to help with the following programs:
The Build-it Bus – is a traveling creative workshop on a bus. The bus travels to urban after-school programs, day care centers, summer camps and senior centers to offer skilled craft programs - from woodworking to sewing craft to cooking. The bus currently runs programs at the Joseph Leidy School (for WePAC) and at the West Philadelphia Senior Center.
The Other Carpenter (TOC) (2008) – is an organization that assists elderly and low-income homeowners in the East Parkside neighborhood of West Philadelphia with maintenance and improvement of their homes.
WePAC – helps to build community one child at a time through volunteers working in five elementary schools in nearby West Philadelphia. APC is currently working to upgrade libraries in the schools, most of which have been closed due to lack of funds to operate them. Additionally volunteers provide art and music programs, and skills programs for youth including college prep.
Interfaith Hospitality Network of the Main Line (IHN) (2008) – provides overnight accommodations, meals, and comprehensive counseling to homeless families with children who are willing to participate in a self-sufficiency model.
